| September 18, 2024 2024 has brought a number of changes in the law that will have significant impacts on the labor and employment front. To learn more about the major challenges that employers will face and developments your organization needs to address before year's end, we encourage you to attend our 2024 Virtual Labor & Employment Law Update. Among the topics discussed will include the Michigan Supreme Court's decision on July 31 concerning Michigan’s minimum wage and mandatory sick leave which will result in a significant increase in the state’s minimum wage and tipped minimum wage on a yearly basis and require nearly all Michigan employers to allow employees to accrue and use paid sick leave effective February 21, 2025. In light of recent events, the status of noncompetes will be discussed. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a final rule on April 23, 2024, that would prohibit most noncompete agreements between employers and workers. This final rule was originally scheduled to take effect nationwide on September 4, 2024. However, on August 20, a federal judge in Texas blocked the FTC's ruling, effectively stopping the ban from going into effect. While an appeal is likely, we will provide an update during the webinar.
